Dear Tripod User,
Did you know .eu domain names will be up for grabs from November this year? .EU is set to be second biggest domain extension after .com. For your opportunity to be one of the first to have an .eu domain name, re-register it now on Lycos, for FREE. The European Union registry is still preparing the launch of the pre-registration system but Lycos is offering you the opportunity to pre-register your chosen name for free right now. All domains reserved through Lycos will be sent to the registry as soon as the registration process is formally initiated. How does it work? We will collect your domain name request in our database. On the day of launch, we will submit your request to the EU reservation service. If your domain is still available, you will have the opportunity to buy it for 1 year. According to the .eu TLD Registry EURid, .eu domain names will cost approximately ? excluding VAT. At this point, you will also have the option to cancel your reservation. Don't miss out, pre-register your .eu domain now, FREE! The Lycos Tripod team https://webcentre.lycos.co.uk/order/prereg/domain/eu/ |

http://eurid.org/Information/information.html Sunrise Period Prior to the start of the registrations under .eu there will also be a "sunrise period" which will be widely announce in advance. During this period holders of certain rights (e.g. trademark holders) will have the opportunity to apply for the registration of the corresponding .eu domain name. Those applications will of course be evaluated prior to acceptance. The European Commission, when setting the public policy rules, will determine the detail of who will be able to apply for domain names during the sunrise period. Our Web site will provide the latest information on all developments including the proposed dates for the sunrise period, when available (www.eurid.org). Who can register a .eu domain name? The EC Regulation No 733/2002 of 22 April 2002 on the implementation of the .eu Top Level Domain determines who will be allowed to apply for a .eu domain name. The following categories of companies, organisations and individuals will be able to register a .eu domain: 1. undertakings having their registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Community; 2. organisations established within the European Community without prejudice to the application of national law; 3. natural persons resident within the European Community. How will I get a .eu domain name? The EC Regulation No 733/2002 of 22 April 2002 on the implementation of the .eu Top Level Domain determines that the registry for .eu will not act as a registrar itself. EURid will establish a network of .eu registrars that will have access to the automated systems of EURid for the different type of transactions (new registrations, updates, transfers.) on behalf of their customers. Orders for the registration of a .eu domain will have to be introduced with one of those registrars and cannot be introduced with EURid directly. A list of accredited registrars will be published on our Web site when the registrar network is established. How much will it cost to register a .eu domain name ? In its response to the Call for Expressions of Interest for the selection of the .eu TLD Registry EURid proposed a registration fee of EUR 10 (ex. VAT) during the first year of operations. This is the price that will be charged by EURid to the .eu registrars and does not take into account the additional services by the registrar for his customer. Therefore it is estimated that the ultimate retail price charged by the registrars will be higher. It is EURid's intention to lower the registration fee to EUR; 5 in the second year of operations if the number of registrations (and related revenues) allows such a decrease. Most Asked Question: When will I be able to get a .eu domain name, your web site has no dates! When will the sunrise period begin? When can I become an accredited registrar? Answer: We cannot begin .eu registrations at this time or set a definitive date to commence. We are in the final stages of contractual negotiations with the European Commission. We must then make an agreement with ICANN and have .eu TLD put into the root. Before we can launch .eu, we must wait for the Public Policy Rules (PPR) for .eu which are currently being drafted by the European Commission, in consultation with the Member States of the EU. We now understand that these rules will not be announced before the end of February 2004 and with this information we have made a tentative timetable which indicates the sunrise period will commence in September 2004 and general registrations in November 2004. |
